Learn a Little
About Me
Biography
Born in Illinois and spending most of her developing years residing in
various states throughout the South, Ada has learned to adapt to different
personalities and cultures while still retaining her own unique
characteristics. In her personal development, Ada has embraced the motto
“why not?” “If there’s an idea that you have and you feel that it could be of
great benefit to society, then “why not” do it? “Do it,” she says. Ada believes
that the sky is the limit when people, especially young kids are offered so
many choices for success.
Ada, in her efforts to do good, wants to promote her platform, Project R.E.V.I.
V.A.L. (Restoring Ego and Virtue In Visions of African Legacy): Celebrating
the Beauty of the African Diaspora through Media, Music, Dance, and
Literature. She wants to highlight the positive contributions of people of
African descent. Ada believes her platform will help influence to Black youth
and encourage them to learn about the impact persons of African descent
have had on the world. This platform will motivate the youth to creatively
express themselves and increase feelings of self-worth.
With her parents hailing from Nigeria, Ada has always had an interest in
health issues even on a global scale. Ada cultivated her interests in public
health while attending University High School, in Tucson, AZ. She received
her Bachelors of Science degree at the University of Arizona in General
Biology with a minor in Chemistry, and in May 2007 she will receive a
Masters Degree in Public Health with a Maternal and Child Health focus
from the University of Arizona, Zuckerman College of Public Health. Ada is
looking towards entering a health journalism program or a doctoral program
in public health where she can combine her many interests towards
eliminating the health disparities affecting minorities. Outside of
academics, Ada enjoys dance (Ada dances and also plays African drums),
working with children and using media production as unconventional and
innovative ways of attacking healthcare problems.
Ada believes in action and the action she has taken has immersed herself
in academic and community endeavors targeting the underserved. She has
worked with Defeating Diabetes through Dance and Diet Program and is
currently the Vice President of her school’s Public Health Student Alliance
(PHSA). In addition to her involvement in programs with a health emphasis,
Ada is helping to develop a mentoring program and a Black Graduate
Student Association with the University of Arizona African American Student
Affairs Center. Ada’s commitment to the promotion of diversity as well as
leadership was the driving force for her coordination of the first Cultural
Diversity Fashion Show at the College of Public Health. Her efforts inspired
the Dean of the Zuckerman College of Public Health to award her with the
first ever Dean’s Diversity Award in November 2006.
A people-person for life, Ada enjoys opportunities in which she can meet
new people and the opportunity to represent Arizona in the 2007 Miss Black
USA Pageant is definitely inspiring!
